The Abia State government, in partnership with the Ministry of Environment and Urban Renewal, united with other global entities to mark World Environment Day in the state on Wednesday.

After conducting environmental awareness activities with the Aba business community and a road walk on Wednesday, Philemon Asonye Ogbonna, the Abia State Commissioner for Environment, restated the government’s dedication to maintaining a clean and healthy environment for the people.
He proudly stated that Abia is presently the tidiest state in the nation, and mentioned that maintaining a healthy environment will require continual effort.

One of the main goals of Governor Alex Otti’s administration is to ensure that the people of Abia have access to a clean and healthy environment. Since taking office, the governor has not slackened his pace. Today, we are ending the event by desilting the gutters, drainages, and streets in Aba and Umuahia.

Abia, once known as the dirtiest state in Nigeria, will not return to its former state under the new government. The commissioner declared that Abia State is now a secure place.

Ogbonna encouraged individuals in the state to adopt the practice of regularly clearing the gutters and drainages around their houses in order to maintain a healthy living environment, emphasizing that the government cannot do it all on its own.
