  1. Wike Brings Relief: FCT Workers to Enjoy N70,000 Minimum Wage, 3-Month Arrears.

In a move that will undoubtedly boost morale and alleviate financial burdens, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has approved the implementation of the new N70,000 minimum wage for all administrative staff. This decision comes after months of anticipation and pressure from labor unions.

The news was confirmed by Anthony Odeh, Press Secretary to the Head of the Civil Service of the FCT, on Tuesday. The approval follows the enactment of the Minimum Wage Bill by President Bola Tinubu.

The FCT chapters of the NLC and TUC had issued a stern warning, threatening a shutdown on November 30th due to delays in implementing the new wage structure. The unions had expressed frustration with the lack of engagement from the Wike-led administration.

However, Minister Wike’s swift action has averted potential industrial unrest. Not only has he approved the new minimum wage, but he has also authorized the payment of three months’ arrears, effective November 2024.

Acting Head of the Civil Service, Mrs. Grace Adayilo, expressed optimism that this generous move will motivate staff to work diligently and contribute to the realization of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

This significant development  underscores the FCT Minister’s commitment to the welfare of workers and his determination to create a more equitable and prosperous Federal Capital Territory.
