Police Implement Ban on Tinted Windows and Covered Number Plates in the FCT
In a bid to combat escalating criminal activities, including kidnappings, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has initiated strict measures against vehicles equipped with tinted windows and obscured number plates.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, conveyed this message on X.com late Tuesday, urging vehicle owners in the FCT to promptly remove any tinted glass from their cars to avoid the possibility of impoundment. She emphasized, “Currently, vehicles with tinted glasses are not permitted. To prevent your vehicle from being confiscated by the police, please ensure all tinting is removed. This measure is a vital part of our strategy to address the increasing cases of ‘one chance’ and other criminal activities in the FCT.”
The FCT Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, reinforced this message during a recent suspect parade, indicating the severe implications of this prohibition. In a video linked to the statement, Commissioner Disu highlighted that many kidnapping survivors pointed to tinted windows as a contributing factor that hindered their visibility for assistance. He explained that criminals frequently exploit vehicles with covered number plates to conduct their unlawful activities undetected.
This crackdown aims to enhance public safety and restore confidence in the ability of law enforcement to mitigate crime in the capital. Vehicle owners are strongly urged to comply with these regulations to contribute to the collective effort in maintaining security.
