FG Expresses Sympathy to South Korea Over Jeju Air Plane Crash

 

The Federal Government of Nigeria has extended its heartfelt condolences to the government and people of South Korea following the tragic crash of Jeju Air Flight 2216.

 

The catastrophic incident took place on Sunday, December 29, 2024, as the Boeing 737-800 attempted to land at Muan International Airport in southern South Korea. The flight was returning from Bangkok, Thailand, when it skidded off the runway and collided with a wall. The impact led to a devastating explosion, claiming 179 lives out of the 181 passengers and crew members on board. Miraculously, only two individuals survived the crash.

 

In a statement released by Kimiebi Ebienfa, spokesperson for Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Federal Government expressed profound sorrow over the loss of lives and conveyed its solidarity with South Korea during this time of mourning.

 

“The Federal Republic of Nigeria wishes to express her sincere condolences to the Government and People of the Republic of Korea for the unfortunate crash of Jeju Air Flight 2216 that occurred on Sunday, December 29th, 2024,” the statement read.

 

The Nigerian government described the incident as a tragic loss, emphasizing its deep concern for the victims’ families and reaffirming its unwavering support for the South Korean people.

 

In expressing sympathy, the Federal Government acknowledged the profound grief faced by the bereaved families and joined the international community in mourning the victims of this harrowing disaster.
