By the end of April last week, the LaLiga giants were still attempting to convince Xavi to stay with the team.
Yet, the ex-Spain midfielder provided some remarks regarding Barcelona’s poor financial condition and how it impacts their ability to challenge a strong Real Madrid team.
And Laporta was not pleased about that. Therefore, the club legend was requested to depart in a month and Flick was appointed as his successor.
During an interview on ‘The President’s Podcast’ on Barça One, Laporta mentioned that Xavi initially had faith in the team, but later seemed to contradict himself with certain statements.
“I was prompted to reconsider and felt compelled to make a change, the same sentiment was also expressed to the board.”
