Trump Vows to End ‘Transgender Lunacy’
President-elect Donald Trump has pledged to bring sweeping changes to social and cultural policies as part of his agenda. Speaking at an event for young conservatives in Phoenix, Arizona, on Sunday, Trump promised to take decisive action on his first day in office, particularly against what he termed “transgender lunacy.”
“I will sign executive orders to end child sexual mutilation, remove transgender policies from the military, and get them out of our elementary, middle, and high schools,” Trump declared. He also committed to protecting women’s sports, stating, “It will be the official policy of the United States government that there are only two genders: male and female.”
A Broader Vision for National Revival
In a speech at the AmericaFest conference, Trump painted his upcoming presidency as a transformative period for the country. He described the last four years under President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris as a time of “failure, incompetence, and national decline.” Promising a brighter future, he said, “On January 20, the United States will turn the page forever… The golden age of America is upon us.”
Trump pledged to address major global and domestic challenges. Among his bold promises were plans to end the war in Ukraine, stabilize the Middle East, and prevent World War III. However, he has yet to provide specifics on how these objectives would be achieved.
Reviving U.S. Control of the Panama Canal
Trump also expressed frustration with Panama’s management of the Panama Canal, calling the current fees “ridiculous.” He argued that Panama has not adhered to the principles of the 1970s treaty that transferred control of the canal to the Central American nation. “If these principles are not followed, we will demand the canal’s return to the United States—quickly and without question,” he said.
As a vital trade route for thousands of ships annually, the Panama Canal is critical to both U.S. and international commerce. Trump’s remarks suggest that its control could become a point of contention in his foreign policy agenda.
Tackling Migration and Drug Cartels
On immigration, Trump reiterated his plan to conduct “the largest deportation operation in American history.” He also vowed to designate drug cartels as foreign terrorist organizations, pledging to dismantle their operations on American soil. “This criminal network operating on American soil will be dismantled, deported, and destroyed,” he said.
This isn’t the first time Trump has proposed such a measure. During his first term in 2019, he considered labeling Mexican cartels as terrorist organizations after the tragic killing of nine American citizens in Mexico. However, he backed down after then-Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador urged him not to proceed.
Transgender Policies Stir Controversy
The debate over transgender rights continues to divide the nation. While some states with Democratic leadership have expanded rights and protections for transgender individuals, Republican-led states have moved in the opposite direction, restricting medical treatments and censoring educational materials related to gender identity.
Trump’s proposed policies are part of this broader cultural battle, reflecting a push among conservative lawmakers to roll back LGBTQ rights. His stance on these issues underscores the stark contrast in priorities between his administration and those of his political opponents.
As Trump prepares to take office, his promises to reshape U.S. policies on gender, immigration, and foreign relations signal a bold but divisive agenda. While his supporters view his plans as a restoration of traditional values and national strength, critics argue that his approach risks alienating vulnerable communities and straining international relations.
With both chambers of Congress under Republican control, Trump’s vision is likely to face less resistance than during his first term. However, how these policies unfold—and their ultimate impact—remains to be seen.
