Tinubu Urges Dissatisfied Candidates to Seek Legal Redress After Ondo Gubernatorial Election
President Bola Tinubu has encouraged candidates unhappy with the results of the Ondo State governorship election to utilize the judicial system to address their grievances. This call came as he congratulated Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on his victory.
Commending the Election Process
President Tinubu praised the peaceful conduct of the election and commended the maturity displayed by candidates from all 17 political parties during the campaigns and the voting process. He attributed the success of the election to the civility exhibited by the people of Ondo State.
In a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Tinubu called for continued orderliness even in post-election activities:
> “Those dissatisfied with the outcome of the election can explore the opportunities provided by the judicial system to seek redress on areas of conflict.”
A Test for INEC’s Efficiency
President Tinubu described the election as a significant test of the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) preparedness and capacity. He commended the electoral body for its efficiency in planning and conducting the polls, particularly its swift upload of more than 98% of results on the same day. This, he noted, justified the public’s confidence in INEC.
Acknowledging Security and Support Services
The President also extended his gratitude to various security agencies, including the Nigerian Police Force, National Civil Defence Corps, Federal Road Safety Corps, the National Youth Service Corps, and the military, for their professionalism in ensuring peace and order during the election.
Moving Forward
By urging candidates to seek legal redress and commending the peaceful and efficient conduct of the election, President Tinubu emphasized the importance of democratic principles and the role of institutions in upholding them. The Ondo gubernatorial election stands as an example of progress in Nigeria’s electoral process, fostering confidence in the nation’s democracy.
