The Nigerian gospel film community is grieving the loss of beloved actor Moses Korede Are, widely recognized for his role as “Baba Gbenro” in the Mount Zion series “Abattoir”. His passing was announced by his colleague Oluwaseun Adejumobi on Thursday, who shared the heartbreaking news via Instagram.
Korede Are, affectionately known by his character name Baba Gbenro, was born on June 11, 1959. He spent his early years in Kano State, Nigeria, where he began his education. He continued his studies in Plateau State and later moved to southwestern Nigeria for higher education. Upon graduation, he completed the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme in Jigawa State.
In 1995, Korede Are founded Calvary Movies Drama Ministry, based in Ogbomoso, Nigeria, officially launching the ministry on September 2. As its International President, he passionately spread the gospel through drama evangelism. Additionally, he served as the CEO of Calvary Movies Television, an online Christian streaming platform devoted to gospel drama and evangelism.
Throughout his career, Korede Are worked alongside influential figures in the gospel film industry, including Toluwalope Israel Adegbo and Evangelist Damilola Mike-Bamiloye. His impactful role in “Abattoir” earned him widespread recognition and solidified his legacy as “Baba Gbenro,” a cherished figure in Nigerian gospel cinema.
