Another Fuel Tanker Explosion Strikes Jigawa State
A fuel tanker has burst into flames in Jigawa State, North West Nigeria, marking the second major tanker explosion in the area within just a month. The accident, which occurred near the Jigawa-Kano border, led to a chaotic scene as bystanders reacted in alarm.
Aliyu M. A., the Public Relations Officer of the Federal Fire Service (FFS) for Jigawa State, confirmed the explosion to reporters on Wednesday, November 13, 2024. Providing details of the incident, Aliyu explained that the Federal Fire Service was alerted on November 12, 2024, at about 10:43 a.m. by the Village Head of Kuho, Zubairu Ahmad. Ahmad reported a tanker accident in Tsaida, near Kwanar Kalle, close to Gamoji village along Maiduri Road.
Upon receiving the call, FFS personnel responded immediately, reaching the scene at 10:50 a.m. and quickly working to bring the fire under control. “The fire was contained and brought under control,” Aliyu stated, highlighting the speed and effectiveness of the FFS response.
This recent explosion follows another tragic incident on October 15, 2024, when a petrol-laden truck en route from Kano to Nguru in Yobe State exploded in Majia, located within Taura Local Government Area. That explosion resulted in a devastating toll, with over 170 lives lost.
The recurrence of such incidents in Jigawa has raised concerns among local communities and safety officials about the increasing risks posed by fuel transportation in the region.
